    Isn’t hemp effectively a weed? It doesn’t need much in the way of fertilisers (ever needed to fertilise your dandilions?) and is (if I’m remembering the right plant) a nitrogen fixer. It’s quick growing too (Eucalypt plants don’t grow all that quickly, from what I remember about australia).

    The current top-runner for hemp being demonised is Du Pont. Hemp ruined the value of their patents on man-made fibres.

    Anyway, the point is that hemp doesn’t really NEED farming, just land. And we’re paying farmers (CAP) to leave land fallow to stop over-production reducing the price for farmed goods.
